The Honeybee and the Hare is a cozy café tucked into Ayr’s Burns Statue Square, where art and coffee come together in a setting that feels more like a creative community nook than a typical coffee stop. This is not a rushed grab-and-go spot; rather, it invites visitors to pause, soak in local artwork, and enjoy thoughtfully made drinks and food in a relaxed, welcoming space.

Locals appreciate this café for its approachable atmosphere—friendly owners who recognize regular faces and a vibe that encourages lingering over a cappuccino or the best chai latte in town. It’s the kind of place where you might find yourself browsing a carefully curated gift selection or admiring contemporary art while waiting for your breakfast or any of the well-regarded cakes.

The café tends to attract people looking for a quieter alternative to busier chain cafés, from morning breakfast crowds embracing regional touches like local salt and potato scones, to midday visitors who appreciate fresh, high-quality ingredients and vegan choices. The presence of plants and artwork gives the interior a homely, intimate feel, making it a nice spot to settle in whether you’re catching up with friends, working remotely, or simply escaping the bustle of the town center.

The best times to visit seem to be mid-mornings or early afternoons, when the light highlights the art displays, and the café isn’t fully packed. It’s a spot well-suited for those who want more than just coffee—people who enjoy connecting over thoughtfully prepared drinks and meals while surrounded by local creativity.

A beautiful little traditional coffee shop, completely different from the busy chain shops out there. This little treasure is just wonderful! The service, atmosphere and indeed the coffee are just amazing. The cakes are equally outstanding! A great find and everything is very reasonably priced!

This is one of the best cafes I have ever been to. The owners are lovely and welcoming every time we come in. The coffee is top tier and the food is some of the tastiest I have had. The cafe itself also has a wonderful selection of gifts and art you can browse- perfect for Christmas gifts! 10/10. I always look forward to going in.

First visit to this lovely wee cafe and was glad we chose it for lunch. Delicious food, amazing coffee and lovely staff. Not a huge menu but quality over quantity is better in my book. The most delicious vegetarian sandwich I've had in ages and the wee shortbread biscuit with the coffee was out of this world. Gorgeous surroundings as well with lots of artwork and gifts and beautiful relaxing music. Will definitely be back.

My wife and I enjoyed a great lunch today on our first visit to the new premises. The couches, tables with chairs are well spread out and there was music playing quietly in the background. We were served delicious and thick carrot and coriander soup, Lebanese seven spice chicken sandwiches and ham sandwiches. The sandwiches, made with freshly baked bread, were accompanied by crisps and a dressed side salad. We then rounded things off with a tasty muffin along with our cappuccinos. Our lunch was very enjoyable and good value for money.
